This conversation reminded me of a poem by Edgar Guest called The Path to Home that goes: She told her mom about him and her mom said, 'All that matters is that you love him and he loves you.'" She went on to tell me about all the places they traveled around the world and I asked her where her favorite place she ever went was? She smiled and said, “Home.” She said, "I was Catholic, he was Jewish, and she fell in love. As I talked with her, she told me about meeting her husband. She was beautifully dressed and was walking around the unit. One of the residents she introduced me to will be 103 years old in March. As the day went on and we cared for the residents, Betsy introduced me to every resident and told me a little about their story. ![]() You could see the pride that Betsy had for her unit and her team. Cierra saw her role on the team, she wasn’t just performing a task or doing a job, she was making a difference. She stopped and gave various residents a hug and chatted with them. I watched Cierra as she cleaned the floors and resident rooms throughout the day. The entire day was packed with activities and excitement. Stephanie lead them in several exercises and then they played bingo, watched a movie, played Yahtzee, had nail time for the ladies, and on and on. I captured a few seconds of this on video because I wanted you to be able to see a little of what I saw: The whole room was filled with excitement because of how engaging Stephanie was with the residents. Stephanie Williams was in the middle of morning exercise with the residents and I immediately fell in love with her because of her passion and energy. I immediately knew they were a team and a family by how they interacted with each other and their residents. Shareta Hartman and Justice Perkins were Betsy’s fellow STNA's, Cierra Moore is the housekeeper, and Stephanie Williams is the activity assistant on the unit. Brittany Robertson is the Nurse on the unit. Betsy showed me around the unit and introduced me immediately to her fellow team members on the unit. Betsy has been an STNA for 20 years and 10 of those years have been with our company. I went to Avon Place, our 91-bed, 4-Star facility in Avon to work with Betsy Robinson, an STNA on Pathways, Avon Place's Memory Care Unit. We call it our Culture of Care and I was immersed in it yesterday like a baptism of love. Left to Right: Brittany Robertson, Stephanie Williams, Shareta Hartman, Betsy Robinson, Bob Speelman, Cierra Moore, and Justice PerkinsĪvon, Ohio - It’s amazing what you can do with a few people with a heart to help others - when you get just a few people together that are passionate about making a difference. ![]()
